Symposium on Fluid Mechanics in the Spirit of Tony Perry

May 5-7, 2004 Kingston, Ontario, CANADA

Professor A.E. Perry, or Tony, needs no introduction to the turbulence and fluid mechanics community. His death in January 2001 was a shock to us all. A trademark of his work was simple experiments coupled with astonishing physical insight and masterful analyses. The citation for his election as a Fellow of the APS in 1998 read "For physical insights into the behavior of turbulence, structure-based modeling approaches, elegant use of scaling arguments and inspirational teaching". This symposium wishes to both honour the memory of Tony and to capture the inspirational spirit for which he was known.

Follow on Meeting: Thousand Islands Fluids Meeting

The Perry Symposium is followed by the Thousand Islands Fluids Meeting, a non-sponsored, yearly event held primarily for the benefit of graduate students in fluid mechanics. It is similar in style to the Mid-Western U.S. Fluid Mechanics meeting or to a Gordon-type conference. The major goal of the meeting is to ensure that graduate students get the opportunity to present some of their research in a non-competitive environment and to enable them to begin scholarly liaisons with other students and faculty. The faculty add an element of stability and perspective 1000 Island Web Site. PLEASE NOTE: there is limited space for this meeting, so please advise the organisers (Ewing and/or Visser see below) of your intentions if you plan to participate. This portion of the meeting will be held at the Glen House Resort, located outside Gananoque on the St. Lawrence River, about 50 km east of Kingston.
