Other Agenda Items

  • Minutes of 2008-9-15 meeting were approved
  • No objections to items for approval without objections (below)
  • Peter Hudleston, Chair of CLE, gave information about the new CLE requirements. The major points were:
    • New CLE requirements have one less core, one more theme (Technology and Society)
    • No theme double dipping allowed any more (core and theme is ok)
    • For IT students (omitting the biology requirement) there are nominally 15 credits allocated to meeting the remaining non-trivial 4 core and 5 theme requirements. The following cases are possible (assuming 3 credit courses):
      • If CHEM 1021 still meets the environment theme: Then have 5 courses to meet 4 core and 4 theme requirements.
      • If CHEM 1021 still meets the environment theme and a major course meets the Technology and Society theme: Then have 5 courses to meet 4 core and 3 theme, so only 2 have to double dip.
It is not certain that CHEM 1021 will still meet the environment theme at this time.
    • He hopes IT programs will get required courses certified for the Technology and Society theme. At this point there are very few courses that have been submitted to meet this theme (one from IT in HSCI). See JOUR 3551 as an example of a well received proposal to meet this theme.
    • MN Transfer Curriculum agreement does not cover Technology and Society Theme
    • CLE is working on FAQ to help prepare successful proposals and it will be distributed to the committee when it becomes available.
    • CLE approved courses for Fall 2010 will have to wait in ECAS for final approval until after Grad. Planner is fixed.
  • Will Durfee is chair of the WI committee and he requests you run all WI course proposals by him first.
  • Information: Ecological Engineering Minor: Handout from meeting and PCAS Entry
  • Information: Changes to Geology and Geophysics Programs associated with course changes below.
  • Information: also handed out were the BBE syllabi for the new courses. Links are below.
